The Staffing Division Training Program

 

The Staffing Division of Civil Service offers training courses for human resources professionals on various aspects of personnel business in the classified system.  As additional courses become available, they will be announced in the What's New section of this webpage.

Course Title:  Introduction to Interpreting Minimum Qualifications

This half-day class is designed to provide employees who are new to human resources with basic information needed when interpreting minimum qualifications.  Topics include the following: definition of “professional level” experience; prorating experience; crediting military experience; crediting vocational-technical training; crediting college; verifying transcripts.  Participants will work with sample exercises to apply what they have learned in the course.

Course Title:  OPEN - The Online Personnel Information System

This two-hour class is designed to teach human resources employees how to use the OPEN system, where they can get Civil Service information such as lists of eligibles, applicant score records and Civil Service testing procedures and schedules.  Participants learn what Civil Service information is available to them on the OPEN system, how to interpret it, and how to manage and protect the security of sensitive personal information in this system.  Much of the class is hands-on practice in the OPEN system.  All necessary materials are provided.

Course Title:  Job Search Data Entry (Creating job postings online)

This four-hour class is designed to teach human resources employees how to post their agency's vacancies to the Job Search posting network for recruitment.  Participants review searching in Job Search from the public side, tour the information available to logged-in Human Resources officers, and learn how to create individualized Contact Instructions and job vacancy postings under Civil Service guidelines.  Most of the class is hands-on practice in the Job Search system.  Access to the OPEN system (see above) is generally a prerequisite for this class.

Course Title:  Job Profiling Workshop (Part 2)

This workshop is a follow-up to Introduction to Job Profiling (part 1) and is intended for those HR professionals who have an interest and/or need to conduct job profiling in their agency.  In this workshop, you will work one-on-one with a member of the Staffing Division to develop specific task statements and competency lists, define rating scales, and link the tasks to the competencies.  Once you are registered, a member of the Staffing Division will contact you with further details.
