General Circular No. 001341

To: Heads of State Agencies and Human Resource Directors

Subject: Governor's Declaration Of March As Career Month

Issue Date: February 3, 1999

For the third consecutive year, Governor Mike Foster has proclaimed March as Career Month in Louisiana. LSU Career Services will once again lead the effort to form a partnership between employers and educators across the state. All state agencies are called upon to participate.

Human Resource Directors are asked to coordinate Open House activities in their agencies to target students who will become potential employees. Suggested guidelines for conducting a Career Month Open House are attached.

The changing demographics of the workforce and the increasing demands of the workplace continue to make the competition for highly qualified employees more intense. By holding an Open House in your agency you can help today's students bridge the gab between education and the world of work. Your participation in March Career Month activities can enhance your agency's recruitment efforts by introducing potential employees to the opportunities offered them through state service.

We encourage you to take advantage of the assistance offered by LSU Career Services in coordinating your Career Month activities. For more information, please contact Mary delaHoussaye Belleau at 225-388-2162 or by e-mail at career5@lsu.edu.
