General
Circular No. 001265
To: Heads of State Agencies and Human
Resource
Directors
Subject: Teaching Employees How To Take Civil
Service Tests
Issue
Date: December 4, 1996
It has
come to our attention that a number of departments
conduct
in-house training programs for their employees on how
to take
Civil Service tests. The Department of
Civil Service
does
not oppose such programs in principle. However, we do want
to
ensure that information given employees about Civil Service
tests
is accurate and that nothing in any program violates
copyright
laws, Civil Service Rules, or other applicable
standards. We are therefore requesting that any state
agency
currently
conducting such a program or planning to start one in
the
future contact Jim Young, our Statewide Training
Coordinator. He will talk to you about your program and
request
that you submit copies of any materials used in your
training
course such as outlines or scripts of oral information
presented,
written information about the tests, sample tests or
questions
you use, etc., so that Civil Service may review and
comment
on them. Subsequent to the review, we
will provide a
written
analysis of your program including any suggestions we
deem
pertinent. We will also put your
program trainers on a
mailing
list whereby we can notify them when changes in tests
or
testing procedures occur that might be relevant to better
prepare
employees for testing.
Please
contact our Statewide Training Coordinator, Mr. Jim
Young
by writing or calling at (504) 342-8274 to discuss your
training
program.
Sincerely,
Allen
Reynolds

Director
