Subject: Testing For The Pet Before Graduation
Issue Date: August 23, 1996
The Department of Civil Service is trying to improve its recruitment of college graduates for entry professional positions. To accomplish this, we will allow college seniors to apply for the PET earlier in their senior year rather than having to wait until two weeks before graduation. There are two important expectations.
1. State agencies and college seniors will both know an applicants' job prospects sooner.
2. We believe the earlier testing period may help us attract seniors who will not wait until graduation to seek employment.
We will establish a register called "College Senior Pre-Test." The test series will be 1333. There will not be any actual jobs associated with this register, therefore no appointments will be made from this register. The schedule is
Expected Graduation Early Application Period
December 1996 or January 1997 August 1996 - September 1996
December 1996 - January 1997
May 1997 or June 1997 December 1996 - January 1997
April 1997 - May 1997
Two weeks prior to graduation, the college senior will be eligible to apply for regrades to PET registers. If you have any questions, please call Bill Rowe at 504-342-8536.
