General
Circular 1747
To: Heads of State Agencies and
Human Resource Directors
Subject: LA
Careers Training
Date: October 2, 2008
The
Department of State Civil Service is ready to move forward to the next stage in
the implementation of the LA Careers system.
LA Careers is a web-based system that allows applications
for employment with the State of Louisiana to be submitted and tracked
on-line. This general circular outlines
the particulars of the LA Careers training requirements.
LA
Careers training will be conducted between January 5, 2009 and February 5, 2009
at sites in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Alexandria and Bossier City. The training is two full-day sessions
covering the recruitment and hiring process of the LA Careers system.
To
ensure the most effective training, Civil Service requests that each state
agency send two Human Resource employees from their staff to the LA Careers
training. We recommend that you choose
employees who work with job postings and application screening in the hiring
process. The employees selected to
attend training should be comfortable with computers, learn quickly and have
good communication skills.
The
employees sent to this training may be responsible for training other members
of your Human Resources staff within your agency. Agencies with a necessity to
send more than two Human Resource employees may request to do so. It is our goal to ensure a smooth transition
to the use of the LA Careers system by providing comprehensive preparation and
training.
Housing
Authorities, Ports and Levee Districts that receive job posting support from
the Program Assistance staff at Civil Service do not need to schedule this
training.

Please
have each person to be trained complete the attached form. Once completed, the form should be e-mailed
to Rob Wood in the Staffing Division at robert.wood@la.gov by
October 24, 2008. Please list three
date preferences and a location for training. Scheduling for the training
sessions will begin on October 1, 2008 and will be completed by October 24,
2008. Each trainee will be sent an
e-mail containing the dates, location and times of their training session. Any changes in training dates or times will
be communicated to trainees through e-mail after they are scheduled.
We
will attempt to accommodate each trainee’s requested preferences; however,
training sessions will be scheduled on a first come, first served basis. We will make a concerted effort to schedule a
convenient date and location for each trainee.
Once the initial trainees are scheduled, we request that Human Resource
Directors facilitate staff attendance.
We
foresee that the LA Careers system will offer unprecedented benefits in
recruitment and selection in Louisiana State Government, not only to agencies,
but for applicants as well. If you have
any questions concerning training for the LA Careers system, please contact Rob
Wood in the Staffing Division at 225-342-8557 or robert.wood@la.gov.
Sincerely,
s/Anne S.
Soileau
