To: Heads of State Agencies and Human Resource Directors

Subject: "The New Civil Service: Conversations With Allen Reynolds"

Issue Date: May 25, 2000

As you know, many changes are taking place at the Department of Civil Service. In order to make you aware of these changes and of the new relationships between state agencies and Civil Service, "The New Civil Service: Conversations with Allen Reynolds" will be held in July and August.

The meeting will be from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the following dates:

August 10

Tentatively, we will discuss the following:

    1. Your new relationship with the Department of Civil Service,
    2. What you will need to do differently in October based on changes in Civil Service Rules and procedures,
    3. how your documentation requirements will change,
    4. your new responsibility for internal controls and accountability,
    5. discussions of what agencies should do to prepare for the October 1st conversion, and
    6. your questions.

Although the presentation will cover some new Civil Service rules, this is not intended as a session focusing on existing rules. Therefore, participants should be human resource personnel with a working knowledge of current Civil Service rules. The meeting is designed for the top 2-3 staff members in each of your locations who perform human resource functions. Since the rooms will only accommodate about 50 people, we ask you to please select participants carefully.

Scheduling should be done through the Certified Public Training Program (CPTP) and your agency CPTP coordinator. The deadline for registration is July 12th.
