What is a Job Search subscription?  The Job Search Subscription is an email notification service for job seekers in the Louisiana Civil Service Job Search system. You can define your search for jobs here, and enter your email address. When postings that match your search request are added to Job Search, the system will email you a notice of that day's matching results. This email is sent once a day, and it includes all job listings that match your request in one email. If nothing is posted that matches your search, NO email will be sent that day.  (back to FAQ top)

What does a Job Search subscription cost?  Nothing.  It is free.  (back to FAQ top)

How can I subscribe to Job Search?  You can subscribe directly from the Subscription page  -- just click on Add New Subscription.  You can also save a search in Job Search as a subscription, or you can add to your search criteria before saving.  For example, you might search for jobs in the Clerical and Records Management category at first, then decide when creating your subscription to add the General Administrative job category.  Or you may search for jobs in Orleans Parish only, and when saving your search, choose to add all of the parishes in the New Orleans Region, if you want to.  (back to FAQ top)

Can I have more than one subscription per email address?  Only one subscription may be requested per email address, but if you are not satisfied with your subscription results, you can change your subscription at any time.  (back to FAQ top)

What happens when I subscribe?
When you subscribe to Louisiana Civil Service Job Search, the subscription system will send an email to the address that you enter, asking you to confirm your subscription request.  This allows us to confirm that the request is genuine, so that you do not receive unrequested emails from us.  To begin your subscription, you will have to click on a link in this email.  (back to FAQ top)

Do you confirm requests to change or delete my subscription?  No.  These requests are carried out immediately.  (back to FAQ top)

What can I specify in my subscription?  You can make selections in the following areas:

1.  Geographical Area:  You can choose a Statewide search, a Regional search, a Parish, or any selection of Parishes not necessarily grouped into a Region.

2.  Salary:  You can choose a minimum pay level for the jobs you want to see.

3.  Occupational Groups:  You can choose as many as you wish from among 40 different Occupational Groups.  The names of the Groups indicate what types of jobs are found in each one.

4.  Agencies:  Agencies are the State employers, such as the Department of Environmental Quality or Louisiana State University.  You may choose any or all of those listed.

5.  Type of Vacancy:  Four vacancy types are posted to Job Search:  Temporary - up to 36 months; Probational/Original; Promotion-All Classified Permanent Employees; Promotion-Department or Agency-wide.  Temporary positions never become permanent, although they may last as long as three years.  Probational/Original positions become permanent after the successful completion of a mandatory probational period ranging from six months to one year.  Only classified State employees with permanent status are eligible for either type of promotion.  You can choose to see listings for any vacancy type in your subscription, but unless you are a classified State employee with permanent status, you will not be eligible for promotional vacancies.  (back to FAQ top)

On the Subscription page, how do I use the CTRL key to make multiple selections?  Hold down the CTRL key while clicking on your choices in the drop-down list.  (back to FAQ top)

Does the Agency list include all State agencies?  No, it displays a selection.  Major agencies, universities, prisons and hospitals are included.  (back to FAQ top)

If I select certain agencies from the list, will my subscription include postings by other agencies not available to choose from?  No, it will not.  If you are interested in vacancies at agencies not listed in the Subscription form, then you should select "All Agencies".  (back to FAQ top)

How can I subscribe to postings for an agency that does not appear in the Agency list?  Include the parish where that agency resides in your subscription, and choose ALL agencies instead of making any agency selections.  (back to FAQ top)

Are all kinds of jobs with the state of Louisiana posted in Job Search?  Only positions in the State classified service are posted.  There are also unclassified positions in State service.  You must apply directly to State agencies for unclassified positions.  (back to FAQ top)

Will my subscription emails include all the jobs posted that match my search criteria?  Matching job postings that are open on Job Search at the time you subscribe will be included in your first email.  After the first one, only new postings -- those added to Job Search since you subscribed -- will arrive in your email.  The subscription emails will include all new postings EXCEPT the recruitment postings.  (back to FAQ top)

What is a "recruitment posting"?  How can I tell these from actual vacant positions?  When a State employer wants to increase the number of job seekers available for a certain job, these jobs are posted to Job Search for recruitment.  Recruitment postings may advise job seekers how to get Civil Service scores so that they can be eligible to apply for actual vacancies when they occur.  They typically do not have an Application Deadline, but are announced Continuously.

When Continuous recruitment postings are added to Job Search, they will NOT be included in your subscription email.  You will only see them if the recruitment is limited to a period of time, and as a result has an Application Deadline.  You can always view recruitment postings by searching at Job Search.  (back to FAQ top)

How long will my subscription last?  How can I change it or unsubscribe?  Your Job Search Subscription will be good for six months. You may unsubscribe or change your subscription at any time: just go to Subscriptions, click on Change Existing Subscription/Unsubscribe, and make your desired changes. You will get a message that your request to change or to end the subscription has been carried out.  Your changes will take effect the next day.  Each time you change your subscription, it is automatically extended for six months.  Also, in the week before your subscription ends, you will receive a reminder from the subscription system to extend your subscription if you are still interested.  (back to FAQ top)

I saved my subscription, but I haven't gotten the confirmation email yet.  You should get the confirmation email the same day that you subscribe.  If it does not arrive, try subscribing again.   Because email programs and computer settings can vary so widely, we do not guarantee the delivery of email from the Subscription service.  (back to FAQ top) (back to Troubleshooting top)

I clicked on the link in the confirmation email, but nothing happened.  Copy the whole link and paste it into the Address window of your browser.  Compare it to the link in the confirmation email to make sure the entire link copied.  Press Enter.  This should take you to a webpage with the message "Your subscription is confirmed."  (back to FAQ top) (back to Troubleshooting top)

Where is the Address Window?  Look at the top of the Internet Explorer browser window.  You should see a menu bar (File; Edit, View ...), a toolbar (Back, Forward, Stop, Refresh, Home ... + picture icons for these commands), and an Address window.  The Address window should have the word "Address" next to it, and inside it is the Internet "address" of the Internet site you are viewing, beginning with "http://".  This is the place where you will paste your confirmation link.  (back to FAQ top) (back to Troubleshooting top)

How do I copy and paste the link into the Address Window?  The link is the underlined text in the confirmation email that starts with "http://www.dscs.state.la.us" and ends with (for example) "Key=NTSR-2AR7YM".

Copying:  To copy the link text, select it with your mouse, click on the Edit menu at the top of the email, and choose "Copy".  If your email does not have an Edit menu, first select the text with your mouse, then hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard and type "C".

Pasting:  Click inside the Address window.  The Internet address in it will be selected.  Press Delete to clear this address.  Click on the Edit menu at the top of the browser, and choose "Paste" (or press CTRL+V to paste).  Finally, press Enter (this "sends" you to the address that you pasted in).  (back to FAQ top) (back to Troubleshooting top)

I confirmed my subscription, but I haven't gotten any subscription emails yet.  You can check to see whether you should have received an email on a particular day by searching with the same options that you set in your subscription.  For instance, if you specified a certain parish in your subscription, specify the same parish in your search -- and so on.  Your search results should match your subscription emails. HOWEVER:  because email programs and computer settings can vary so widely, we do not guarantee the delivery of email from the Subscription service.  (back to FAQ top) (back to Troubleshooting top)

I clicked on the job listing in my email, but instead of a job posting, I got "Page Not Found".  This means that the job posting has either expired or has been removed from Job Search.  (back to FAQ top) (back to Troubleshooting top)

Sometimes the subscription service sends me the same job posting more than once.  Why is that?

If a job posting is edited for any reason, the subscription service will re-send that posting to subscribers.  If you receive a posting in your subscription again after you first access it, be sure to re-read it for any important information that may have changed.  (back to FAQ top) (back to Troubleshooting top)

 State GroupWise email issues:

When I open my Subscription emails in GroupWise, they appear blank.  How can I read them?  Solution #1:  Instead of double-clicking to open the message, right-click on the message icon in the message list, and choose "View" from the pop-up menu.  Solution #2:  In GroupWise, go to Tools.  Click on Options.  Open Environment.  Open View.  Set "Default View Read" to HTML instead of Plain Text.  You may need to re-start GroupWise for your changes to take effect.   (back to FAQ top) (back to Troubleshooting top)

Dept. of Corrections email issues:

I clicked on the Activate link in my confirmation email, and I got a message that my subscription has been confirmed, but I am not getting any subscription emails.  The "Activate" link may not work correctly in your Department's email program, even if you get the confirmation message.  To be sure, copy the link and paste it into the Address Window of your browser, and press Enter.  If you need more information on how to do that, please see "How do I copy and paste the Activation link?"  (back to FAQ top) (back to Troubleshooting top)
