Supervisory Potential Assessment Tool

Goal of the Supervisory Potential Assessment Tool

Louisiana is making great strides in its Statewide Workforce Planning initiative.  Workforce planning is a long-range view of staffing and training needs.  More specifically, it is a systematic process for analyzing the current workforce, predicting future needs, identifying the gap between present and future and implementing programs that bridge that gap and allow organizations to accomplish their mission.

Predicting future workforce needs is an important element of workforce planning.  One of the gaps that we will face in the future of state government will be replacing employees at the supervisory level.  Our goal with the Supervisory Potential Assessment Tool is to provide employees with information to identify areas of strength and areas of weakness pertaining to development in the supervisory area.

What is the Supervisory Potential Assessment Tool?

The Supervisory Potential Assessment Tool is designed for state employees who are not currently in a supervisory level position but are considering growth in this career area.  The results from this tool will provide an employee with information concerning supervisory skill areas that the employee excels in as well as those skill areas that the employee needs additional development.

This tool is a self-assessment and is designed to assist those employees that complete it with opportunities for growth and development.  The results of this assessment do not need to be shared with a supervisor or agency personnel unless the employee chooses to do so.  The results from the assessment will not affect job classifications or pay grades.  It is to the advantage of the employee taking this assessment to answer each question as honestly as possible in order to gain productive results in assessing individual supervisory potential.

Content of the Assessment:

Overseeing Completion of Work: 20 questions
Planning/Organizing: 20 questions
Communication/Conflict Resolution: 20 questions
Analysis/Problem Solving: 20 questions
