HEALTH INFORMATION PROCESSOR 1
FUNCTION OF WORK:
To perform activities related to the storage and retrieval of primary and
secondary health care records.
LEVEL OF WORK:
Entry.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Close from a Health Information Processor Supervisor or higher level health
information staff member.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.
LOCATION OF WORK:
Department of Health and Hospitals,

Differs from a Health Information Processor 2 by the performance of entry level
tasks.

Reviews, classifies and
maintains health care records by updating patient files, filing, compiling statistics
and identifying and correcting record errors on reports.
Maintains case abstracts in
computerized records system and enters changes in patient file data.
Retrieves patient records
upon request and maintains sign-out file for records removed from department.
Input data into computerized
health information system.
PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of experience in which clerical work was a major duty.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Training in a business, office machines, secretarial science or closely related
curriculum in a business school or technical institute will substitute for the
required experience on the basis of one month of full-time training for one
month of experience.
Completion of a Secretary or
Executive Assistant program of at least twelve months duration approved by the
Department of Civil Service from a business school or technical institute will
substitute for all of the required experience. For less than completion of the
program, credit will be allowed under the first paragraph for substitutions.
All training must have been resident study.
College training will
substitute for the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours
for one year of experience.
Registration with the
American Health Information Management Association (formerly the American
Medical Records Association) as a Registered Health Information Technician
(RHIT) (formerly ART), a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or a Registered
Health Information Administrator (RHIA) (formerly RRA) may substitute for one
year of the required experience.
NOTE:
Individual positions may
require typing. Persons applying for
those positions may be required by the hiring agency to take a typing test or
otherwise demonstrate their typing skills.

Any college hours or degree
must be from a school accredited by one of the following regional accrediting
bodies: the Middle States Association of
Colleges and Secondary Schools; the New England Association of Schools and
Colleges, Incorporated; the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary
Schools; the Northwest Association of Secondary and Higher Schools; the
Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools; the Western Association
of Schools and Colleges.
