8)        Request of the Department of Culture, Recreation & Tourism for authority, under the provisions of Civil Service Rule 12.6, to establish an Unscheduled Absenteeism Policy.  (Appearance by a Representative of the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism.)  THE REQUEST WAS GRANTED BY THE COMMISSION.

9)         Consideration of the following requests for authority, under the provisions of Civil Service Rule 6.16.1, to establish or amend the Rewards and Recognition Policies as follows:  THE REQUESTS WERE GRANTED BY THE COMMISSION. 

a.          Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority – to amend its policy to include changes in award amounts and approval procedures and to rescind the employee of the month award.  Requested effective date is August 6, 2003. 

b.         Department of Transportation and Development – to amend its Rewards and Recognition Program policy effective August 6, 2003.  The agency has chosen to amend its policy as follows: 

·           Clarify procedures and added requirements for employees who attain the Emergency Response Team Certification and/or volunteer to perform non-job-related safety duties in emergency situations or who serve as Designated Safety Coordinators for their respective section.   

·           Minor changes to the courses required for the Designated Safety Coordinators. 

·           The monetary award amount was increased from $200 to $250 and two more relevant certifications were added for one-time payments of $500. 

c.         Louisiana State Employees’ Retirement System – to amend its policy in order to change the amount for some of their professional certifications effective August 6, 2003.
